As a child, I was raised in a typical desi household with Pakistani and Islamic values in the UAE. Having grown up in a family that has been not too strict, but also not too soft, has ultimately shaped my character and outlook on life. I grew up watching channel 33 and space toon. It’s been 5 years since my first role as a KYC analyst at Emirates NBD, and I’m now a senior fraud analyst in the Retail Cards and Business Department.
The classes in Strategic Management and Service Management were my absolute favourites, and the enthusiasm and energy of my teachers motivated me to work harder. In each class, our lecturer would assign us brainteasers as exercise, it was always fun to test our reasoning abilities.
Leadership involves caring for staff, ensuring they have all the resources they need to perform their tasks, and supporting them as needed. To lead, one must have self-control and be able to utilize their finest qualities to lead others. A contentious phrase. In my employment, I’ve been led by myself with support to reach my goals, which makes me a leader of myself, but leading a group of well-meaning individuals is a different problem.
First and foremost, be adaptable. I’m a meticulous and watchful individual. I like to prepare ahead of time and always have backup plans for backup plans. Life is unpredictable because it is impossible to regulate. As a result, the only survival skill required is the ability to live in the present moment. I can adjust if I have the tools and time to consider things out, but abrupt changes throw me off balance. Second, in terms of digital technology, it is preferable to be adept in fundamental computer abilities such as Microsoft Excel and Word. This is especially useful while working remotely and waiting for IT to respond.
As a result of the flexibility of the classes available in Westford from my colleagues at work, I chose the online evening classes, which fit well into my work and sleep schedules. It was very manageable since I had my weekends to myself and was able to catch up on my sleep. I was also able to have leisure time and pray during the study breaks in online classes. Aside from this, recorded classes were also an advantage. I would consider it a blessing in disguise. The recordings allowed me to go back and forth and catch up if I missed any important details.
