The MSc Accounting and Finance at Westford in partnership with Abertay University is designed in conjunction with the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA). The MSc Accounting and Finance (CIMA Gateway) is designed to offer a postgraduate level study of the theory, knowledge, analytical and practical skills required for understanding the implications of decision-making within organisations.
In this program, learners will be exposed to a thorough and contemporary knowledge of the accounting and financial processes of an organization and the ability to forward plan and effectively manage risk. It will provide learners with a knowledge of environmental challenges and trends, the opportunities and constraints these create and how it impacts organizational decision-making and resource allocation. This module aims to improve and widen students’ abilities to create, analyze, and evaluate financial accounts. It will allow students to delve deeply into the foundations and theories of international financial reporting and analysis, as well as introduce them to contemporary critical debates on the adequacy of traditional financial accounting techniques.
This module develops management accounting procedures in their role in shaping short and long-term decisions, analysis, planning and control, and management reporting.
This module investigates current ideas and advancements in Strategic Management Accounting in organizations, as well as new concepts and approaches and their influence on strategic decision-making.
The complexities of project management, as well as the tools and approaches available to help in effective management. Learners will be enabled to make an inquiry into a project failure and make recommendations for alternative activities that may have been implemented. Learners are required to do practical research in response to a real-world business requirement and to write a relevant management report with recommendations.
This module serves as an introduction to research methodologies and statistical analysis for postgraduate students. Combines theoretical, historical, and statistical principles with hands-on practical lab sessions that use both qualitative and quantitative methodologies to put theory into practice.
Individual in-depth investigation of a particular aspect of the learner’s specialism.
