The feeling of pride experienced by an educational institution when its students take the stage and emerge victorious is incomparable. Westford’s Fashion School recently participated in Runway Dubai Fashion Show held on November 23rd and 24th 2022. Their masterpieces were displayed under two distinct categories. Haute Abaya was one of the categories in which the designers participated. To achieve this student were required to create unique abaya couture inspired by a renowned structure based in the United Arab Emirates. Westfordians, Ramsha Fayyaz and Sanubar Iqbal did not only participate in this category but also bagged the first prize for their abaya design that was inspired by the iconic Burj Al Arab.

I have always wanted to be a part of the Runway Dubai and this year I finally built the courage to compete in the Haute Abaya Category. It was an amazing experience to work alongside professional designers. It felt even more special as I wasn’t just representing myself but also Westford University College. The theme dictated that we take inspiration from a famous architecture in the UAE. I chose to design the Abaya with a side view of the famous Burj Al Arab. Once everyone’s designs were submitted, I began questioning if my design was good enough. But my faculty and classmates encouraged me by already considering us winners. It felt nice to have had such a wonderful support system. Nevertheless, only moments later we were announced as the winners in the category, and I was on top of the world.
Liyana Khadeeja, Yuha Hamid, Adiba Maqbool and Ali Nader also designed outfits for the Athlete Avantgarde category, under the theme of Recycling on the Runway Dubai Platform. For this challenge, designers were provided with 2 yards of fabric to create a unique couture inspired by any sort of their choice. Our students decided to add the oomph to the sport of Fencing. The Event was attended by some successful names in the Fashion Industry of UAE. This opportunity also served as a promising platform for our students to grab the limelight as well as network with the who’s who of the fashion industry.
