Westford University College recently hosted an enriching fashion illustration session as part of its ongoing Fashion Session Series 2024. Led by Mr. Aman Khan, an expert with extensive experience in both luxury couture and mass market categories, the workshop aimed to equip students with essential skills in fashion illustration, offering them a hands-on approach to learning the intricacies of this art form.
The workshop started with Mr. Khan sharing his valuable insights into the importance of hand illustrations in the fashion industry. He emphasized the importance of mastering the proportions perfectly, starting with the creation of the 12-head croquis basic element within fashion illustration to ensure correctness in the representation of the human form. Students were then guided through a series of practice sessions where they learned to create proportionate fashion figures. The hands-on nature of the workshop allowed them to experiment with different styles and techniques, including the use of scrap materials to design ensembles. This approach enhanced their understanding of fashion illustration and introduced them to the concept of drape and fall—crucial elements in fashion design. Students with a lot of passion used scrap fabrics, combined with different prints, textures, patterns, and weaves to create fantastic looks for the croquis they drew. The interactive sessions fostered a collaborative learning environment, where students could engage with Mr. Aman, ask questions, and receive personalized feedback. By the end of the workshop, participants had not only improved their illustration skills but also gained confidence in their ability to translate creative ideas into visual designs.
The Fashion Illustration Workshop was a resounding success, providing our students with practical skills and creative inspiration. It highlighted Westford University College’s commitment to offering quality education and professional development opportunities. We look forward to organizing more such workshops that empower our students to excel in their fashion design journeys.
