I work for the Kenya Revenue Authority as a customs and border control officer and am also a recording artist and performer. My role as a customs officer is to verify that goods entering the country are legal. Additionally, I work to prevent illegal and dangerous imports like drugs and firearms from entering our country. I completed my BA (Hons) in Business with International Business at Westford University in conjunction with Liverpool John Moores University, UK.
My dual career led me to choose a program that would improve my performance in music as well as prepare me for a world career. My choice of the program came down to international business management out of the few I was considering. Due to my interest in working across borders and the fact that the international business world is rapidly expanding, I thought it vital to understand how businesses are conducted within a global context.

Juggling employment and education takes a lot of dedication and discipline. I needed to plan to maintain a decent study-work-life balance. First, I spoke with my boss, who enthusiastically agreed to assist me to balance my working hours to accommodate my studies. Then I had to jot down all of my duties in a little journal as my guide in tracking assignments and completing them on time.
By enrolling in a program, students have already taken the first step toward learning. They must work smart to achieve success and positive results. Students should always remember when they are starting school, that they are there for a reason and a season. There is time for everything and learning time should be dedicated to learning. Students should avoid distraction from unnecessary entertainment during this phase. The saying, “Any distraction is destruction”, applies to social media and timewasters. Last but not least, students should create a study plan that helps to organize their calendars to avoid last-minute deadlines for assignment submissions.
