An entrepreneur and an avid startup specialist working in the fields of technology and digital strategies for the last 15 years; Elie Farhat is the managing Director of Rabbit Creation and a consultant for several companies in the UAE. “Adapting to change is the only game changer in every field these days, and I still have a lot to learn along the way” says Elie when discussing the route that led to where he is right now.

It was about time; I wanted to give my experience of 15 years an educational support in terms of certification and knowledge as well. With a world evolving every day, I found myself responsible to learn and expose myself to an MBA program that will support my technical skills. The ultimate motive for an MBA was probably the fact that in few years, I would want to be teaching which will require a PHD, hence a masters was mandatory.

Do not preach – Work! And thats when you will notice that your team will be following your path. Today’s idea of a leader is that of a person giving advices and lectures all day long, when reality is should be that a leader has almost no time to waste on talking.

Showing up and doing the work is the way to go; I found that when the staff look at me doing what I do, they can almost live in the vision I have for my organization and they go the extra mile. I do not preach, and I do not give lecture instead; I work, I finish tasks, I support the team in every project, and I delegate a lot of my tasks to them, so they feel involved and motivated.

Time management was the key factor. I made sure that I never missed a class to grasp all the knowledge from the professors; class time is extremely important to get yourself in the mood of the topic.

During weekdays I am extremely busy, therefore I used to add my gym and activities time to the weekdays schedule, which gave me the weekend time to focus on my assignment; Friday and Saturday were always dedicated for my assignment and that made the process stress-free because I was never late for any submission and I had time to do proper research without compromising my work – Life balance.

Working on the assignment after the module was completed, the students who used to wait found it very difficult to keep up with the deadline. Personally, I used to do my assignments in one go, so I used to research and add literature review to a side document where all my readings and referencing used to be placed, then write the assignment in one go within 2 days; but for people who used to wait, it was a big hassle.

On another note, a lot of students were expecting the faculty to teach us the lessons word by word; and this is not how MBAs go. When you’re in higher education, the professor’s job is to explain the main processes, the definitions and show you the path to extend your knowledge in a certain topic but the rest is all on the student to read and expand the knowledge.
